Web design isn’t about making useless web looks pretty. It’s always more than that. If you find any useless page on your site, get rid of it. Good web design is nothing without good web usability.
Every page in your site should provide something with value for the user. It could be some important information, or maybe just some interesting fun stuff. If your page does nothing important nor interesting, then why keep it alive?
Example of useless web page: a page full of ad. Of course ad is important for you. They make money. But what’s in it for user? Nothing. Just see the television, people will likely change the channel when ad start to show.
If we still have too live from the ad, keep the REAL content of our site at no less than 75%. So make all part of your page have its own value, even the 404 page.
