1. Ask Jeeves
Well, Ask Jeeves is actually its 90’s name because today, this search engine is called Ask.com. This site started at 1996 by Garret Gruener and David Warthen in Berkeley California. “Jeeves” is the name of the “gentleman’s personal gentleman”, or valet (illustrated by Marcos Sorensen), fetching answers to any question asked.

2. Yahoo! Search
Yahoo! Search actually starts not as web search engine, but as web directory of other website.

3. Bing
Maybe some of you aren’t so familiar with Bing. Well, this is actually one of Yahoo! Search biggest competitor. Bing is owned by Microsoft and used to be called the MSN Search.

4. Dogpile
Dogpile isn’t really a standalone search engine. It’s a Meta-Search Engine that fetch information from other search engine in this list. This dog start fetching since 1996.

5. Alta Vista
Another search engine from Yahoo!. Alta Vista was the most used search engine before Google comes around.
