Yahoo! is launching a new feature that you might actually be interested in. A derivative feature, but looks useful nonetheless.

The feature is called Search Direct and is similar to Google’s Instant Search feature, but Yahoo! distinguished it as a query tool for answers instead of links.

Results —or answers, whatever— on Search Direct are displayed in a box that drops down from the search box. As soon as you place your cursor in the search box, the drop-down display shows trending search topics, and once you begin to type, it shows 10 most likely search terms. If one of those terms involves Yahoo! content, then a preview of that content appears. Hitting enter or clicking the search button displays normal search results.

Google Instant has long been increasing the number of rich results it displays in addition to the blue links, but Yahoo! Search Direct seems faster, particularly because it isn’t refreshing the whole page.
