Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 10:52 pm PT Astra International President Director Michael D. Ruslim Died

PT Astra International President Director Michael D. Ruslim Died on Wednesday in Singapore at the age of 56, the company said.
He died at 7:08 a.m. Jakarta time at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore, after suffering from dengue fever and then from multiple complications.
Michael’s death shocked many people, especially his employees, as there was no prior sign of illness.
Astra corporate secretary Aminuddin said Michael had still worked until last Friday.
“On Saturday, he complained of having bad headache and had been taken to Medistra Hospital,” he said.
As his condition worsened, his family decided to fly him to Singapore Monday for further treatment.
Michael was appointed as president director of Astra, the country’s largest conglomerate, in May 2005.
He had previously served as director at several of Astra’s units.
Born in Bandung, on Nov. 29, 1953, Michael started his career in Astra in 1983. The Berkeley University alumni was known as a good leader and had a close relationship with his staff.
He successfully led Astra to cope with the impact of the global financial crisis which had greatly reduced the demand for cars.
He managed to stem the decline of the company’s car sales last year to 3 percent down from previous estimates of up to a 10-percent drop.
The media-shy manager rarely gave interviews but The Jakarta Post had the rare opportunity to interview him two years ago. Michael then talked about the company’s business and his optimistic view of 2009 despite the financial crisis.
Despite a 1.24-percent drop in Astra shares Wednesday to Rp 35,800 (US$3.8), analysts believed the passing of Michael will not affect Astra’s business as investors view the company as having strong foundations.
“It is just an adjustment [reaction] by the market,” head of research at Bhakti Securities Edwin Sebayang said.
Michael is survived by his wife Trisni Puspitaningtyas and two children Gisela Deamanda Prasadhistika and Mayongga Gilang Pragiwaksana.
He will be buried Thursday at the San Diego Hills cemetery park in Karawang, West Java.

Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 5:25 am Before Developing a Flash…
Flash is always been great if it’s built based on the right purpose and technique. There are some things to consider before we work on our flash development.

Some clients want to use flash because just because it’s currently a happening trend. Now it’s the web agency task to remind them that representing corporate/brand image is more important than following trend. Make sure their brand can appear well in flash; otherwise they’ll make an expensive mistake.
Know what would you use the flash for. Web banner? Good idea. Video player? Even better. Splash page? Big no. Splash page is bad even without the flash.
Also you might want to consider that not all people enjoy flash. When some people meet flash, they just wait around 10 second and left if nothing happen. So it’s important to keep the flash short and sweet. This would also come in handy for those who enjoy flash but have slow CPU / connection.

Thursday, November 26, 2009 at 12:16 am How Google Ranks Our Pages
We play our SEO on the Google field so it’s important for us to follow their game. We all know that Google doesn’t just pick random page for their top list. They have some ranking system that separates which site should go on top and which one stays on backyard.
Links play an important role. Make sure all links in our site works, both internal and external links. Continuously check for dead pages. Remove all dead links and change irrelevant links.
Then about the content; Keyword rich content is obviously important. But more important is good quality relevant content. Very keyword rich but pointless content will not make our page goes up. Remember that we build the site for people not for search engine.

Also keep the navigation as simple as possible. You must be doing this to comfort the users, but hey… this can also enhance your rank in the search result because Google crawler will also easily explore your site.
The latest ranking factor would be page load time. Google just announce that they will have this new ranking factor in 2010. So we better get rid of those heavy graphic and keep the web design simple.

Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 4:28 am Careful on Colors
Web usability isn’t all about navigation and function. Choice of colors also matter. Some combination of color may make user’s eye works harder.

For example, nothing can beat black text on white background. Black and white has the maximum contrast so there’s nothing should go wrong if you use these colors. User should see or read easily. But sometime we need some touch outside the comfort zone of black and white.
Whatever color we chose, remember to use the combination of light and dark color. Light font with dark background or vice versa. Forget about experimenting with slightly contrast colors. Users have their own browsers and monitors that have their own way to render color. So the safest one is to play it with high contrast colors all the time.
About eye catching color such as red, it may be good to attract user’s attention, but we also must really careful in using this kind of color. If you use it too much, it may hurts someone’s eye and drive them away.
