Not too long ago, Google started a #NoHacked campaign and last week the biggest search engine giving tips on how to protect sites from getting hacked. Since last year, number of sites that getting hacked increased for about 180%, and Google recommends if your site have not become the victim of the action, check out these tips:
Password Security
These days, it’s been known that having strong password that containing combination from letter (uppercase and lowercase), numbers, and symbols is a must, even some sites have these rules when new users registering their profile to the site. But, Google said this method is still not enough. Beside those combinations, length is also a new factor that should be part of your new password. Because the longer characters in your password, making it harder to guess, quite similiar to URL structure situation. Users are also need to avoid having the same password for many profiles in different sites. Another recommended method is turning on 2-factor authentication, that will make hackers become confuse about the password that they guess are correct or not.
Software Updates
Always update your site’s software, CMS, plug-in and add-ons if there’s new version, because Google explained that outdated software is one of the weak factors that hackers use to enter your site.
Hosting Provider
When using hosting provider service, Google recommends that you need to contact the provider and ask if they have on-demand support for fixing issues that related to sites that just got hacked. But if you have your own server for your site, Google shares that you need to be ready about dealing with any complicated security issues that you might face.
Google Service
There are many serviced that Google offers related to your site when something is wrong. One of the most recommended services to sign up to is Google Search Console (use to called Google Webmaster Tools). This service is connect directly to site owner, you. More than that, Google also recommending site owners to set up notify from Google Alerts that will tell them if there’s suspicious action in their sites. Google gives example like if your site is www.abc123.com, then you can set up alerts such as site:abc123.com cheap software and it will notify you if there is any hacked content about cheap software starts appearing on your site without your knowing. Site owners are also told to set up many spammy terms to protect their site getting hacked.
